Tacos Hernandez Food Truck
Tacos Hernandez brings authentic Norteño tacos (think flank or skirt steak, refried beans, Mexican melting cheese, shredded cabbage, sliced avocados, and cotija cheese) to the metro Detroit area. Owner Diana Gomez, who is originally from El Paso, Texas, moved to Michigan and is sharing her cuisine with people from Detroit and the surrounding areas. She started out selling her tortillas and salsa at pop-ups around the city, but now she’s serving delicious dishes to Detroiters.
Gomez’s brisket taco is a standout, and it starts with a 24-hour brine using El Paso’s Claude’s barbecue brisket sauce and secret ingredients. She then braises the meat for eight hours, drawing from traditional barbacoa methods, allowing it to confit in its own fat. After cooking, the brisket is shredded and returned to the brine for extra flavor. Corn tortillas are made to order, too.
