Day 18
Raising a Glass to a Second Act
When Detroit entrepreneur and wine enthusiast Mikiah Westbrooks closed her first wine bar after major problems with her West Village, Detroit, location, she refused to give up. She knew Brix Wine could succeed in a different location, but she needed a lender who believed in her as much as she believed in herself. That’s where Michigan Women Forward stepped in.
Mikiah secured a loan and reopened Brix Wine in Detroit’s Rivertown district. Today, Brix Wine thrives as a warm, inviting space that demystifies wine and fosters community. It proves that with perseverance and the right support, a second act can be even sweeter than the first.
