About Us

The MWF has dedicated more than 20 years championing the causes of social justice for women and girls through public and grantee education, philanthropy and advocacy.

  • Young Women for Change was founded in 1995 as a program of MWF. Young Women for Change is a group of young women, ages 14-18, of diverse backgrounds who assess the needs of local girls and young women and grant funds to non-profit organizations working to improve and change the lives of girls and young women in their local communities. In 2008, more than 3,000 lives of women and girls were touched.

  • Michigan Women’s Foundation hosts two Women of Achievement and Courage Award dinners honoring accomplished and deserving Michigan women; one in the Grand Rapids area and one in the Detroit area. Past honorees include Mary Kramer, Detroit Free Press columnist Rochelle Riley, the late human rights activist and former president of the Detroit City Council, Maryann Mahaffey, Aretha Franklin and financial savvy and best-selling author Gail Perry-Mason.
