  • Nationally, 75% of the elderly poor are women.
  • Michigan ranks 47th among all states in the pay equity gap between men and women.
  • A girl without a high school diploma has a 90% chance of being poor and raising children who will also live in poverty.
  • Michigan ranks 35th nationally in percent (22%) of college-educated women.
  • Overall, one-fifth of all women seen in emergency rooms show signs of partner abuse, and 50% of homeless women and children are fleeing abuse.
  • Every eight days, a woman in Michigan dies from causes related to domestic violence.
  • Of America’s 44 million uninsured, nearly 12 million are women.
  • In Michigan, more than 657,000 women, ages 15-44, are without health care coverage.
